Top Mistakes to Avoid When Using a 4-in-1 Multipurpose Bucket

Meghan West

Landscaping projects can be intimidating, especially as a DIY. Not only do you have to hire different machinery, but you also have to engage the help of friends and family if you intend to complete the project within the shortest time possible. However, you do not have to go through all the expensive machinery rentals or spend hours switching to different machinery. This is all thanks to the 4-in-1 multipurpose bucket which you can attach to your tractor and perform four critical landscaping functions with: scooping, bulldozing, lifting and backfilling or grading. However, you can only get the best out of a multipurpose bucket by avoiding certain mistakes. Read on.

Grabbing Boulders -- If your lawn has big boulders, you have to remove the stones so that you can level out the lawn with ease. For most people, one look at the 4-in-1 bucket is enough to conclude that the grabbing teeth can be used to grab and pull out the boulders on their lawn. Moreover, rather than dig out these boulders with a spade, it seems much easier and faster to simply grab the rocks and pull them out. However, doing so can damage the teeth, especially if you have to use a twisting motion to get the big stones out. Therefore, you must, at all costs, avoid grabbing and pulling deep-sitting boulders with the grabbing teeth on the multipurpose bucket. Instead, dig them out manually and then doze them away from the lawn.

Push/Bulldoze with Bucket's Corner -- When using a 4-in-1 multipurpose bucket as a dozer, it is essential to use it appropriately. Ideally, the material you are bulldozing must be centred directly in front of the bucket. However, what happens when the material is on the side of the bucket? You have to turn the tractor so that you can centre the boulder or tree trunk. Unfortunately, that is not what happens. Most operators simply use the corner of the bucket to push the material out of the way because it saves them time. However, if you do that, it is easy to twist the loader's frame, and this will render the bucket useless.

Driving with Bucket Lowered -- When working on your landscape, it is normal for the ground to get ragged as you move earth and other material around. If you drive with the multipurpose bucket lowered, then it is going to hit whatever is on the ground. If, for instance, there are big stones and tree trunks, the sharp edges of the bucket will be damaged in the process. Therefore, once you have dumped earth material at its designated location and you are going back for more, ensure that you drive the tractor back with the bucket raised to avoid hitting the rough ground.
