4 Reasons to Install Poly Water Tanks on Your Farm

Meghan West

If you want to install new water tanks on your farm, then you have a choice of materials. While concrete and steel tanks have some benefits, poly tanks are often a better solution in an agricultural environment. Here are some reasons why.

1. Poly Tanks Have More Weather Resistance

It's not always easy to install water tanks in shaded areas on a farm. You might have to site a tank in the open where it will be exposed to sun, rain and wind on a regular basis.

Some tanks don't deal with weather conditions all that well. For example, metal tanks are more likely to corrode over the years if they are exposed to a lot of rainfall. Exposure to UV light can degrade the surface of standard plastic tanks. Their plastic might harden, become brittle and break.

If you buy poly tanks with UV stabilisers, then they can sit in the sun without damage. Poly materials also don't corrode, so you don't have to worry about rain damage.

2. Poly Tanks Are Lighter

If you install a heavy metal or concrete rainwater tank in a remote location, then your installation becomes more difficult and more expensive. You have to find a way to get the tank into the right place.

Plus, once your tank is installed, you won't be able to move it easily. This can be a problem on farms. You might need to relocate your tanks periodically if you move your herds or change the way you use your fields.

Poly tanks are lightweight. They are easy to transport and install. If you ever need to relocate a tank, then you'll have an easier job with this lightweight option.

3. Poly Tanks Are More Versatile

You won't always be able to find an off-the-shelf rainwater tank that exactly meets your water storage needs. Some tanks will be too small or too big; you won't have much luck finding custom shapes.

While you can order a custom-built tank, say in concrete, that you build on-site, this increases the time it takes to get the tank in place. Your tank might still not be the exact shape or size you wanted.

Poly tanks give you more versatile options. Manufacturers can work with you to design tanks that are the right size and shape for your needs and locations. Plus, these tanks are fabricated in one piece, so you won't have to build them on-site.

4. Poly Tanks Are Cheaper

Poly tanks should reduce your costs. These tanks are cheaper to buy. You also don't have to add extras to them such as protective liners. Your transport costs should also be lower. It costs less to move a lightweight poly tank than a heavyweight metal or concrete product.
